Special Educational Needs

Special Provision

Milldene has a strong tradition of supporting children with Special Educational Needs. We aim to identify problems early, so that these can be addressed by teachers, along with our Special Educational Needs Coordinator. A clear programme of support is developed and the views of both parents and child are sought. We also aim to develop the potential of our more able children and these are identified from assessments and observations and provision made for them by their class teacher.

Special Educational Needs

The individual needs of all children will normally be catered for within the classroom situation by the class teacher.

On occasions, however, some children may have a learning difficulty that requires extra support. This may be a learning difficulty in general or in one area of the curriculum, for example, mathematics.

Sometimes this may be a short-term measure and other times throughout the child’s school career. When such a situation arises the teacher responsible for Special Needs (SENCo) throughout the school will advise and support the class teacher in providing a thorough programme of work, which will be personalised for that child.

We believe that every child has the right to be involved in appropriate education which challenges, motivates and rewards them, so that they can each fulfil their individual potential and to this end we are developing our provision for our more able pupils.
